Bluffton Police Dept., partnering with Bluffton Self Help, seeks toys for its annual Toy Drive & “Shop with a Cop” event for children in our community.
Bluffton Police Department (BPD), with its officers and Town employees, is hosting its 9th annual Toy Drive and its 5th annual “Shop with a Cop” event to bring holiday joy and gifts to local children.
Town Toy Drive:
The Bluffton Police Department will collect toys until Friday, December 9. Please drop off toys in the lobby of the Bluffton Police Department (101 Progressive Street in Buckwalter Place) or Town Hall (20 Bridge Street in the Historic District). Those toys will be delivered to local families through Bluffton Self Help the following Monday.
Shop with a Cop:
The second holiday BPD event is “Shop with Cop.” The brainchild of a Bluffton police officer, this event began in 2018. Each Bluffton school resource officer selects two children from a financially challenged family. There are six schools in Bluffton. Those 12 children receive a $100 gift card and with a Bluffton police officer, go to Wal-Mart and “Shop with a Cop.” The students use the gift cards to purchase holiday gifts for their families or themselves. Shop with a Cop will be held Saturday, December 10, starting at 9 a.m.
“The Bluffton community is second to none in the ways neighbors help neighbors,” Interim Chief Scott Chandler, said. “These two toy events bring joy to children in our community and is also a wonderful way for officers to build relationships and trust with families in celebration of the holidays.
“If children grow up around police officers who advocate for them, those children become our best public safety partners as they grow up,” Chandler said.
