Bluffton Police Department (BPD), with its officers and Town employees, is hosting its 8th annual Toy Drive and its 4th annual “Shop with a Cop” event to bring holiday joy and gifts to local children.
Town Toy Drive:
The Bluffton Police Department will collect toys until Friday, December 10. Please drop off toys in the lobby of the Bluffton Police Department (101 Progressive Street in Buckwalter Place) or Town Hall (20 Bridge Street in the Historic District). Those toys will be delivered to local families through Bluffton Self Help the following Monday.
Shop with a Cop:
The second holiday BPD event is “Shop with Cop.” The brainchild of a Bluffton police officer, this event began in 2018. Each Bluffton school resource officer selects two children from a financially challenged family. There are six schools in Bluffton. Those 12 children receive a $100 gift card and with a Bluffton police officer, go to Wal-Mart and “Shop with a Cop.” The students use the gift cards to purchase holiday gifts for their families or themselves. Shop with a Cop will be held Saturday, December 11.
“The Bluffton community is second to none in the way our neighbors fill a need with enormous generosity and enthusiasm.” Bluffton Police Chief Stephenie Price said. “These holiday events are crucial to ensure all our local children feel included in celebrating the holidays regardless of their families’ financial status.”
Price said these events are a joy for the officers, as well for the children, as it is wonderful way for children to learn to trust officers.
“If children grow up around police officers who advocate for them, those children become our best public safety partners as they grow up,” Chief Price said.
How you can participate:
• Drop off unwrapped toys to the Bluffton Police Department or Town Hall for children, infants to 15 years old. Deadline: Friday, December 10.
• Donate to “Shop with a Cop.” Send those donations to the attention of Chief Stephenie Price with “Shop with a Cop” in the memo section.
