Bluffton Police: Increase in vehicle break-ins prompts reminders

The Bluffton Police Department wants to alert the public about an increase in vehicle break-ins reported in the Town of Bluffton over the weekend.

“The vehicle break-ins were largely due to vehicles being left unlocked during the overnight hours," said Chief Stephenie Price. "We are asking for the community’s help to remove valuables from vehicles, lock all doors and immediately report any unusual activity to the police." Chief Price added, "Please stay healthy and watch out for our neighborhoods by taking these simple steps to ensure our safety.”

While there were few items stolen from the unlocked vehicles, the department is urging citizens to do the following to reduce crimes like vehicle break-ins:

  • Always lock your vehicle upon exiting whether day or night.
  • Make sure all windows are rolled up when the vehicle is parked and unattended.
  • Never leave valuables in plain sight. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, make sure they’re hidden from plain view or locked in the trunk.

Citizens are encouraged to call the Bluffton Police Department at 843-706-4550, Non-emergency line 843-524-2777, or 911 to report suspicious activity.
