A School Resource Officer is a sworn officer assigned to a school on a long-term basis. The Bluffton Police Department has seven officers assigned as School Resource Officers (SROs). They are assigned to two middle schools, two high schools, one elementary school and one K-8 school in the Town of Bluffton.
During the school year, School Resource Officers spend their entire work day assigned to their school campuses and work closely with school officials providing assistance with campus safety, information on the judicial process, taking enforcement action and working with students. During summer months and other school vacation periods, these officers are re-assigned within the department.
