This career-oriented program provides young adults the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement by working with Bluffton Police Department officers. It consists of weekly classes over a five month period. During the 2019 class, many of the department’s officers provided time to teach the classes and offer their expertise.
Classes
Each class is taught by a Bluffton Police Officer that has special training or certification on the topic they are teaching as well as years of law enforcement experience. Each class typically consists of thirty students who receive hands-on experience in a variety of law enforcement areas including:
- Accident investigation
- Arrest and search procedures
- Criminal justice system law and procedure
- Decision making
- Defensive tactics/use of force
- Firearms
- Internet safety
- Leadership
- Street survival for law enforcement
- Vehicle stops
